Breaking, also called breakdancing or b-boying/b-girling, is a street dance style that evolved as part of the hip hop movement that originated in the South Bronx of New York City during the early 1970s. It is arguably the best known of all hip hop dance styles. While diverse in the amount of variation available in the dance, breaking mainly consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes.
This Breaking course is taught by Jay, a professional dancer and choreographer, he has participated in many individual and group dance competitions. He has also performed in many theatrical performances such as The Nut Cracker, Peter and the Wolf, and Halloween Spectacle. Co-founder of Rising Starz Crew in St. Louis, and the dance team, Marquette Madcap Militia in the Michigan upper peninsula. He has over 11 years of experience performing and teaching Breaking.
